Starr Insurance Companies has announced the launch of Starr Gate, a new general aviation policy with "unprecedented flexibility" that can be purchased by the month or year.

Non Owned Aircraft Insurance Is An Affordable Must Have

Starr Gate is available directly to pilots through an iPad app available from Apple's App Store or through insurance brokers, and gives covered pilots access to CloudAhoy, a popular cloud-based pilot review and analytics tool, for a potential premium discount. .

"This product is an important innovation for Starr," said Maurice R. Greenberg, chairman and CEO of Starr Insurance. “For thousands of pilots across the US, this is a smarter way to get coverage. We use technology to increase safety and adapt coverage to meet the real needs of the market.

Jim Anderson, senior vice president of Starr Aviation, added, "Starr Gate is more aligned with pilot skill and flight time. With CloudAhoy data, we can write coverage in high definition. It's customized insurance that makes you a better pilot.

"Giving pilots the flexibility to purchase coverage on demand could not have come at a better time as we begin to emerge from this public health crisis," he said. “Qualified pilots get insurance cover for flying. If you don't fly now, apply for the necessary protection when you start flying again.

Aviation Insurance Market Update

CloudAhoy founder and CEO Chuck Shavit noted that using data-driven technology to provide quantitative and objective feedback to pilots has always been part of his company's vision.

"We are delighted that it will be used in a positive way to reward pilots and promote safety and skills," he said.

The ePublishing Staff editors are experienced pilots, flight instructors and aircraft owners who are passionate about bringing you the latest news and announcements. When a pilot leases an aircraft from an FBO or flight school, they often assume that adequate insurance is in place. It is only after an incident or accident that the lessee is hit with the devastating and expensive news that the aircraft owner's policy only covers... the owner. With the average cost of an aircraft insurance claim being $30,000 regardless of fault, a renter can quickly find themselves on the wrong end of a claim.

Airplane Renters Insurance

Although aircraft renters insurance has been around for decades, many renters who realize they need non-owners insurance coverage can find the market confusing and difficult to access. That's why Starr Insurance Companies, a world leader in aviation insurance, has developed a revolutionary new shopping experience for aircraft charter insurance with its Starr Gate iPad app.

How Much Does A Private Jet Cost?

The Starr Gate app, available through Starr's dealer network or the Apple App Store, helps pilots fly safer and save money, and gives renters peace of mind knowing they're covered when a claim needs to be made. The ability to purchase aircraft rental insurance each month means pilots can revise their coverage to match the way they fly. If they only train or fly occasionally, pilots can use the app to buy coverage when they need it — even just for a month — and not have to pay for coverage when they're not flying. With an enrollment process that takes less than five minutes, pilots can purchase their aircraft lessor's insurance and fly the same day.

Starr Gate's app can save charter pilots money and also contribute to safer flying habits. Fixed-wing pilots can earn up to 35% off their renter's premium when they participate in Starr Gate's partnership with CloudAhoy, the leading cloud-based post-flight review tool for pilots. With a 35-day trial version of CloudAhoy Pro available, users of the Starr Gate app can assess flight safety using the CFI Assistant tool. The CloudAhoy app helps pilots improve and develop piloting skills on every flight, reducing accident statistics. “With CloudAhoy data, we can record coverage in high definition. It's insurance tailored to make you a better pilot,” says Jim Anderson, Cirrus pilot and senior vice president of Starr Aviation.

The Starr Gate app is a sleek, modern solution for purchasing the rental aircraft insurance you need with the terms that suit you. Coverage can be tailored for single, multi-engine and piston rotorcraft. In addition, the cover is also available for single engine seaplanes. Whether your logbook is empty or filled with 30,000 hours, the Starr Gate iPad app is sure to keep you informed when the skies call and your favorite charter aircraft is at hand.

aircraft shark mouth

aircraft shark mouth

Aircraft Shark Mouth - This portrait of Flight Lieutenant Neville Bowker inspired the nose art that is forever associated with the Flying Tigers.

That's not a smile. It is more than a predator's taunt. Razor teeth, a wagging tongue, and 300-yard black, dead eyes focused on the confluence of the warriors' guns. The airplane's nose art featured the attack face, a bit of psychological warfare meant to intimidate, painted with a few ounces of paint on aluminum.

Aircraft Shark Mouth

Aircraft Shark Mouth

The legendary World War II American volunteer group "Flying Tigers" popularized the shark's mouth, but they weren't the first to paint it on airplanes. During World War I, some German pilots painted their eyes and covered their mouths in the Roland C.II spy plane. They are called thin-bellied Roland biplanes

Shark Teeth Plane Stock Illustrations

(of the whale). The nose art seems ridiculous and appropriate for such tabby machines. It expresses strong determination rather than actual coercion. Soon, someone decided to put together an open mouth and triangular teeth, giving one of the planes an impish smile.

Nothing good can remain secret for long. The pattern continued through World War I and beyond with many machines, appearing on Newports, Swopwiths and later Messerschmitts.

Greet visitors as they enter the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Entering the Edvard-Hazy Center, a Curtiss P-40E has the face of a shark, but it's not a Flying Tiger. In 1942, the plane was painted in the colors of the 14th Air Force's 23rd Fighter Group, which included some pilots and aircraft from the Flying Tigers.

Then came the Curtiss P-40. Straight out of the factory, the fighter looked horribly underpowered, thanks to the ample intake scope located under the nose. Today, it's hard to imagine a couple going for a ride with hungry couples. Even a three-year-old will tell you, "That's a flying tiger," and the inherent contradiction in a shark-faced tiger doesn't bother anyone. But not all Shark-faced World War II P-40s were Flying Tigers.

The World War I Origins Of The A 10 Warthog Shark Mouth Design

While American pilots were flying in combat in World War II, Royal Air Force aircraft were involved in nearly two years of combat. The Americans adopted many British ideas on how to fight effectively in the air, including 100 Tomahawk fighters produced for Britain. These flights were flown by AVG.

The archetypal shark's mouth as we know it today first appeared on the nose of the tomahawks of Royal Air Force No. 112 Squadron fighting in North Africa. In July 1941 the "Shark Squadron" received its Curtiss fighters. Squadron nose art went through several iterations before the British Air Force settled on a final design. The final Shark appeared while 112 Squadron was serving in Egypt.

That year, in a different part of the world — at a Baptist missionary's house in Tongko, Burma, to be exact — AVG pilot Charles Bond got bored with the after-dinner conversation. He took the copy on November 2, 1941

Aircraft Shark Mouth

On its cover was a picture of a pair of tomahawks from 112 Squadron. Pictured, South African Flight Lieutenant Neville "Box" Bowker stands on the wing of a British Tomahawk Mk. 1 was named "Danger". But what impressed Bond most were the fighter's eyes and fearsome teeth.

Warhawk Plane With Shark Teeth

"Yes!" He wrote in his diary, "I wish my P-40 was like that!" I discussed it with others and they thought it was a good idea. Bond had hoped to mark every fighter in the First Pursuit squadron with the design, however, AVG commander Claire Chenault said, "No." Instead, he wanted all ships in the group to carry the marks. The next day, Bond wrote in his diary, "November 16, 1941. Today was very sad." I think it went from paddling through town to jazzing up airplanes for color.

Soon, several pilots and ground crews entered. After a few days of chalking out a very British model, then drawing teeth and eyes on each plane, the crew went back to admire their work. AVG pilot and memorial R.T. Smith certainly spoke for all Flying Tigers when he said, "It's like hell."

airplane refueling

airplane refueling

Airplane Refueling - Fueling an airplane is very similar to fueling a car. The question is whether it is necessary to refuel every time the plane lands - this page explains how it all works.

There are two ways to refuel an airplane. Jet fuel refueling is mostly done using a sprinkler and a so-called "hydrant pit". The hydrant pit is where passengers enter through the gate and where cargo and food are loaded on board. You are at the airport. The piping system is under the hydrant pit. A special vehicle known as a "distributor" connects the hose to the sump hydrant. The other end of the hose is connected to the part of the plane for the fuel pump. This is what the server looks like:

Airplane Refueling

Airplane Refueling

Location of filler cap There are 2 hydrant pits on each aircraft stand. They are on the left and right side of the plane. Sometimes an airplane will have a "plug" only on the left or right side, like a car; or the plane will be fueled on one side with food loaded on the other. It is useful to be able to reset the plane on the most comfortable side. There are hydrant pits in the ground at almost every stop where passengers can get off using a passenger bridge. The only exception is door C4, because there is a cargo cellar underneath.

Facts About Refueling Airplanes

Hangars that are not connected to the terminal by a passenger bridge - where passengers exit via stairs - do not always have a hydrant pit. This means that these planes will consume fuel. They attach their hose to the wing and can refuel the plane directly.

Paying at the pump is the analogy between putting fuel on an airplane or a car that doesn't stop at the filter cap. Many fuel suppliers have agreements with airlines to refuel their aircraft. There are three different kitchen facilities at Schiphol. They use a donation system, just like when you fill up your car at a gas station - except the pilots don't have to pay at the pump.

To refuel or not to refuel? Cars don't need to be refueled after a short trip, and airplanes don't. If you still have enough fuel, you can also go without fuel and take the passengers directly to their destination.

A Look At Turaf's Aerial Refueling Aircraft Capabilitiy & Potential Candidates To Replace Its Aging Tanker Fleet

Have you ever wondered how a commercial airliner refuels? I recently visited JFK and saw the refueling of a large commercial twinjet from the time the plane arrived until it refueled on its transatlantic flight.

Jet fuel is mainly diesel. It is also known as kerosene, one of the two types of diesel fuel. The fuel used in the US and Canada is Jet-A and in the rest of the world Jet A-1. (More on jet fuel here.)

At airport terminals, this crude oil is loaded into large trucks far from the airport, often several kilometers. Airports have so-called "fuel tanks" or large tanks where fuel is stored.

Airplane Refueling

You can see the JFK Fuel Farm when you arrive or take the Air Train. JFK himself gets his fuel through a 40-mile pipeline that runs underground from a plant in Linden, New Jersey. The pipes are three feet underground. JFK has a fuel capacity of 32 million gallons and ships up to 4.675 million gallons of fuel

Iaf Returns Transport, Refueling Planes To Service After Maintenance Issues

From these tanks, the fuel is added to the gate through a pipeline that runs under the taxiways to the gate. The oil is pumped into the hydrant, unlike an underground fire hydrant. However, it is covered by a support aluminum cover.

A hydrant supplier—essentially a truck with equipment on a chassis—connects to underground hydrants near the aircraft, and an orange flag is attached for maximum visibility.

You'll know it when you see it: it's protected in FLAMMABLE, NON-SMOKING and JET-A - the letters themselves are legal size. This machine also filters the oil for water and other impurities before it is pumped into the wings. And essentially, like a fuel pump at a gas station, it has a scale where airlines can track the precious dollars that are pumped into the plane. However, it is cheaper than what goes into your car at about $1.90 per gallon. Good thing when there are about 50,000 gallons that fit into a Boeing 777.

The boat was pointed at the ramp, left the terminal, and under way. The policy is for the truck to be positioned so that the operator can leave the fuel stop immediately in the forward direction in an emergency - no change.

The History Of Air Refueling

Airplanes flying through the air generate electricity, and the fuel that is carried in a high-speed airplane does the same. Accordingly, one of the first steps for pumping oil is to ground the truck. This is done by a cable attached to the aircraft's landing gear.

The operator connected the truck's pump to the hydrant. They then lift up to attach the truck to the bottom of the plane, a process called bonding.

The operator takes the dead line, which is an automatic stop, like when you press the latch on the gas handle when you fill up your car. The pressure from the hydrant alone is enough to force the fuel up into the plane; The truck will not draw fuel for itself. You will notice in the photo above that there are two ropes attached to the plane; this increases the rate at which fuel is pumped into the aircraft. On a large ocean-going aircraft, two cars can be fueled at once.

Airplane Refueling

Flight fueling takes about 45 minutes to an hour and the process starts no later than 90 minutes before the flight. (In 80 minutes, the flight operations team will call the fuel tank team to check; screw yourself!)

Aerial Aircraft Refueling (in Air)

Generally, if the aircraft is at a gate where power is available from the hydrant system, the aircraft fuel station will be connected to the hydrant system. But sometimes the planes stop at the gate where there is no fuel supply. Therefore, a tank car is needed.

At the same time, the fuel needs to be emptied from the plane from time to time - and it can only go into the tank. This occurs when the plane carries more passengers or cargo than planned and needs to be unloaded, or when the cargo is less than expected. In another example, an airplane is sometimes refueled if air traffic control decides that the weather at the destination airport may require a longer takeoff time. But if the weather takes a turn for the better, the fuel can be unloaded to avoid lugging around with all that extra weight.

In the US, jet fuel is measured in pounds, while in the rest of the world jet fuel is measured in kilograms. The US airline industry knows this all too well. (You can read about Gimli's glider taking only 4,000 pounds of fuel instead of the 20,000 pounds needed, directly due to a shipping error.)

The plane I saw being refueled was from a plane that had crossed the ocean. It arrived with 9,400 kilos of fuel. The fuel guard estimates that you need at least 20,000 kilos of fuel - a calculation because you have just started fueling. The operator will start the oiling process first and will not care much about the final number. There is plenty of time for that.

Broken Boeing Airplanes Are Going To The Military Thanks To Corruption And Bad Decisions

Under the wing (and also on the belly of the aircraft) there is an LED panel showing the fuel on board and the amount of fuel required, which is already done by the ground operations team based on the recommendations of the flight dispatch team . . This dispatch team evaluates the performance of the aircraft based on wind, temperature, expected route, passenger and cargo.

In this case, the Airbus A330 was refueled until it had 36,000 kilos of fuel on board and sent on its way back across the Atlantic.

The main advantage is that it gives a perfect match barrel, which differs from the original barrel by good fitting, special profiles and last, but not least, high-end steel material with high viscosity. High-end steel with special hardness – unlike stainless – preserves barrel elasticity and longevity. No broken ramps, no cracked cartridge housings. Permanent best results.

IGB Austria combines both worlds with its in-house blank production. A traditional field-groove profile is used for better control of the bullet or lead bullet. If you look closely at the profile, you'll find that the groove-to-field angle looks like a polygon (60°) with slightly rounded edges. For this reason, IGB barrels give longer life and are more hygienic than others.

Unprecedented density. Hard on the surface, "soft" on the inside. The stiffness/toughness and flexibility criteria of a barrel are not mutually exclusive, but combined in IGB Austria barrel production. IGB Austria forces the tool through the barrel with a lot of pressure. The result is a precise, mirror polished barrel with excellent vibration characteristics and durability.

Barrels manufactured by IGB Austria are treated with a modern method of hardening - plasma nitration. A diamond rough smooth surface without the known weaknesses of the tannifer process (loss of flakes of material on the inner surface). Plasma treatment usually provides a very dark gray surface, is corrosion resistant and approaches the hardness of diamond.

1911 glock mags

1911 glock mags

1911 Glock Mags - The Alpha Foxtrot is a relative newcomer to the 1911 market. They have been making 1911 parts for over 30 years, but now offer complete firearms. But they have some interesting suggestions that I found interesting. They make 1911 pistols chambered in 9mm with custom covers, but what really caught my eye was their 1911-S15. This is a 1911 that takes Shield Arms magazines!

Yes you. But a little background on Alpha Foxtrot. They are a subsidiary of Dasan Manufacturing and use the aluminum Glock frame for their AF-C pistols.

1911 Glock Mags

1911 Glock Mags

The AF-C pistol is a top-of-the-line shotgun machined from 7075T6 aluminum alloy. The 18° 1911 grip angle points naturally and makes extended beaver tail lugs a thing of the past. Unlike polymer-frame pistols, which may only have textured "gas pedals" on the sides of the frames, we have the index finger for your thumb to control the muzzle of the pistol.

Signature Double Magazine Pouch

The Alpha Foxtrot makes a 9mm 1911. Currently only the government and commander length versions are listed on their website. But on Range Day, they found an interesting twist on this classic platform.

The 1911 pictured below has one of the smoothest slide:frames I've ever seen. The old adage "smooth as glass" is apt. According to marketing representative Josh Wee, it has a polished DLC coating that helps eliminate slippage.

My friend Steve was there and he admits he's not a fan of the 1911, but he really liked this 9mm 1911 covered DLC. It was such a smooth shooting and very accurate pistol.

Another 9mm 1911 offering from Alpha Foxtrot was this optic cut version. They plan to add a metal sight to the rear sight to use the spoke tail of the Glock rear sight. It is cut for the RMR CC like the rest of their pistols.

While those 1911s were interesting, Alpha Foxtrot's 1911-S15 stole the show. Check out the image above. The 1911-S15 Commander is smaller than the 1911. But it's only 15th of a 9mm! Alpha decided to modify the frame on the 1911-S15 to accept the Foxtrot Shield Arms magazine.

The 1911-S15 is small and no compromise for a 1911. It still has the straight pull trigger, light brake, grip safety, and single action you'd expect from a 1911.

The 1911-S15 sells for $1,490. It will soon arrive in March. According to Josh Vee, they change the check a bit, the dust cover goes all the way up, and because it's too small, they give the grip a bob tail. Pre-orders are live on their website.
